Zakat

Zakat calculator

Work out what is due on what you hold. The calculation is the same one the Kareeb app runs, and it stays in your browser — no amount is sent to a server.

Zakat due

Add what you hold below and the figure appears here.

Nisab threshold

Zakat is due only on wealth at or above the nisab. Which standard to follow is a question for your scholar — gold gives a higher threshold, silver a lower one, so more people owe Zakat under silver.

Kareeb has no market feed, so this is the price you enter — not a quoted rate. Check today's figure before relying on it.

Cash and savings

Money you hold, in any account or in hand

Cash at home · Current and savings accounts · Digital wallets · Foreign currency

Zakat is due on wealth held for a full lunar year, not on income as it arrives. Enter what you hold on your Zakat date — not your annual salary.

Gold and silver

By weight and purity, or by value if you know it

Gold jewellery · Silver jewellery · Coins and bullion · Gold held in an account

Whether jewellery kept for personal wear is included is a question scholars answer differently. Kareeb marks it for your decision rather than choosing — see Questions about Zakat.

Investments

Shares, funds, pensions, crypto and property income

Shares and ETFs · Mutual funds · Retirement and pension accounts · Cryptocurrency

How much of a holding is zakatable differs between methods, and between shares held to trade and shares held long term. Kareeb applies the portion you set and shows it on the calculation.

Business assets

Stock for sale, business cash and money owed to the business

Cash held by the business · Inventory intended for sale · Invoices customers owe you · Short-term business investments

Equipment you use to run the business — tools, vehicles, fittings — is generally not stock for sale. Enter what is held to be sold.

Money owed to you

Loans you have made and expect back

Money lent to family or friends · A deposit you expect returned · Wages owed to you

Whether a debt owed to you counts each year, or only when it is repaid, is answered differently by different scholars. You can include it now, leave it out, or record it when it arrives.

What you owe

Debts you are deducting

Bills currently due · Short-term loans · Money you have borrowed and must repay · Business liabilities

Which debts reduce zakatable wealth varies — some hold that only immediately due amounts count, others include more. Kareeb subtracts what you enter and records that you chose it; it does not import your debts or decide which qualify.

Recording what you pay PRO

This page works out the figure. Recording payments against it across the year, keeping the annual history, and encrypting the amounts so they sync between your devices are in the Kareeb app. Nothing you enter here leaves this browser, which also means it does not follow you to your phone.

Kareeb provides a calculation, not a religious ruling and not financial advice. Whether a liability is deductible, whether personal jewellery is included, and how much of an investment is zakatable are questions scholars answer differently — Kareeb applies what you set and shows it, it does not decide. Consult a qualified scholar for your own circumstances.
